About Shannon...

Welcome to the home of Brilliant Flashes.

Shannon Housley Davis, professional photographer graphic designer marketing manager, and avid maker, knew the moment she picked up her mom’s Pentax K-1000 she wanted to learn about photography. She was obsessed with her mother’s make-shift black and white photo lab she would set up in their tiny bathroom to print and process photos. She loved her mother’s K-1000 and eventually, it became hers.

In high school, she was the head yearbook and newspaper photographer. After graduating, Shannon initially enrolled in Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas where she was taught and mentored under O. Rufus Lovett, an amazing photographer who continues to inspire her. Shannon graduated from Kilgore College with a broad knowledge of photography as well as the trades that are associated with it, including printing, commercial art, and fine art. After Kilgore College, Shannon attended Sam Houston State University in the piney woods of Huntsville, Texas where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Photography and a minor in Studio Art where she found her passion for pottery.

Shannon has worked in the photographic industry as a studio, portrait, commercial photographer, and research photographer with Texas A&M University on their geological research ship, the JOIDES Resolution. With IODP Shannon sailed around the world for 5 1/2 years documenting scientific findings as well as shooting public relations images for the research program. Her work can be found throughout the International Ocean Discovery Program’s print media and website.

Shannon met her husband John on the JOIDES Resolution and after leaving the ship in 2006, they settled in North Texas while working for the University of North Texas. She became involved in real estate photography and began a career in graphic design, working closely with real estate professionals.

In 2008 Shannon and John’s family of five and their two dachshunds moved overseas to serve in the U.S. Foreign Service. As U.S. Diplomats the Davis family has served in Moscow, Russia, Libreville, Gabon, the Washington DC metro area, and Monterrey, Nuevo Leon in the beautiful Sierra Madres of Mexico.

In 2022 Shannon served as Columbia State College's Director of Events and Alumni Services where she was able to flex her graphic design and marketing muscles. She had the privilege of working with world-renowned performing artists while hosting them at the College's beautiful concert venue.

Currently, she is at home just north of Washington D.C. in Maryland where Shannon works for Community College of Baltimore County in Catonsville, MD. Whether it be with watercolor, graphic design, photography or jewelry design, she is constantly creating Brilliant Flashes.
